Denmark and Fiona

P1020747_2

This is my current knitting project. These socks are addictive! This is Denmark from Knitting On The Road, the yarn is Lorna's Laces Shepherd Sport in Pond Blue. I really love the pretty cables. Sock knitting makes me feel so smart, especially now that the heels are no longer making me cry :-)

Here is Fiona looking all reflective. It's funny because every picture I took of her she was blurry from wiggling and giggling, but then this one turns out and it's not an accurate picture of her mood at all!

My shawl is blocking! And I have some finished socks to show you, too. I hope they dry quickly!

Oh! and I can't wait to get my new Interweave Knits, the preview is so exciting with all those gorgeous knits. My favorites are Deborah Newton's Hedgerow Coat, Kathy Zimmerman's Dickinson Pullover, Eunny Jang's Tangled Yoke Cardigan and Mary Jane Mucklestone's Mirepoix Pullover . What are your favorites?

Yarn Yarn Yarn

OK, time to show the yarn.

P1020713

Sock yarn, some Regia, Austermann Step, Lana Grossa Cotton, and Online Supersocke Cotton. I rarely go into a yarn shop, almost all my shopping is done online. So I am not usually tempted by random balls of sock yarn. I usually buy with more purpose, but these things just kept falling into my basket.

My mom and I made a daytrip to The Woollen Earth. What a delightful shop, it's in the middle of nowhere, and it's just a tiny store, but it's jam packed with gorgeous yarn. I bought these two skeins of Celestial Merino there. One in Sugar Maple and the other in Seashell.

P1020723

I also bought these at The Woollen Earth, Hempathy and Misti Alpaca Cotton Silk. I have lacy summer tops in mind for these.

P1020734

Impulse buys, my first Zephyr which I have been wanting to try for ages, and some locally spun alpaca. The alpaca's name was Ricco, and his yarn is heavenly soft.

P1020739

And last, a lot of Briggs and Little Regal and Heritage. It's Briggs and Little's 150th anniversary and when you buy 2 skeins of their yarn you can buy one of the Heritage for a 1.50. I indulged and now have enough for 3 sweaters. The Heritage is in the process of being swatched up for a Central Park Hoodie.

And now I think my stash has reached it's peak capacity. There will be a bit more restraint shown by Mrs. Knittypants over the next little while, before she drowns in her own yarn. Except for the last week of September, I know I am going to buy yarn that week. But otherwise, I am planning to either knit from my stash or only buy yarn if I plan to knit it immediately, like it comes in the door and goes on the needles. No more feeding the stash for a while, no sir.

Home Again, Home Again, Jiggety Jig

P1020665

Ahhh...It's good to be home. We had the most wonderful time, visiting our family and friends, but by the end of three weeks, it was time to be back home with our regular routine. Little children tend to thrive on routine, and by our last week, I could see my children were ready for a regular bedtime again :-) As was I!

P1020658

I bought yarn of course, lots, there will be pictures of that very soon. My mom is the best to shop yarn with, no crazy looks, no mentioning of all the yarn at home that you haven't knit up yet, just lots of fun and enabling :-)

P1020630

Finished a few projects, pictures of those coming as well. I made a dress with my mom's help for Kaelen. It's the one she is wearing in the next picture.

Went to visit an old friend, and was able to chat knitting for hours with no strange looks! Went clothes shopping with my sister, she is the perfect person to buy clothes with. She knows where all the best sales are, she's great at picking clothes that work with your body type. Basically, she does all the work, and I come home with a great new wardrobe!

Ate waaaayyy too much of my Grandma's good cooking! I am now on a diet. The kids ran around till they dropped almost every night. There are 7 adults to 4 kids so the children were just spoiled with love. I think one of my favorite things to do is watch my parents and grandparents playing with my children, so many great memories. An excellent time from beginning to end.

Every time we go home to visit family, we try to take a trip to Barkerville. I loved going there when I was a girl, and it's one of Kaelen's favorite places now. I hope Jarvis, Fiona and Simon will love it, too. All of the above pictures are from our day spent there. I realize now, that I didn't do a very good job taking pictures of the town, but really this trip was about family, so the pictures are just right.
