When the first needle went I was sad, but you can still knit with 4 needles. The second snap minutes later was too much.
I need to invest in some stronger needles than my Brittanys for socks. I'm thinking about getting the Knitpicks Harmony set. For those of you that have them, are they very strong? I really prefer wood to metal, so I would like to try the bamboo, but not if they snap too easily than I'd prefer the Nickel-plated.
Sigh, these are the two fronts to Kaelen's cardigan.
Oh, no! I have some Harmony DPNs, but haven't had a chance to use them, yet. So far, my favourite has been the bamboo. Kaelen's sweater is coming along so quickly! :0)

Yup, I hear ya. I did this same thing yesterday. I had just put a sweater in time out because I twisted a cast on, so I picked up my sock out of my purse. I had apparently sat on it and broken two needles. I just had to laugh at that point.

Ouch! I feel your pain.

From what I understand, the process used to make the Harmony needles makes them very strong. But sadly, I have yet to try them. I say it's worth it to get them though, they are cheaper than Brittany's, aren't they?

That Sucks! I like the harmony needles a lot but they still are strong enough to withstand a leaping three year old. I made him work to buy me a replacement. The harmony needles also come with 6 so you will have an extra if you only break one.

I broke some Brittany needles trying to finish socks in time for someone's birthday... *sigh* I know how you feel.

Oh no!
I don't know about the Harmonies because I opted for the metal Options and DPNs ones since the Harmonies are backordered until the end of time, but if you need wood/bamboo needles in a pinch you may be able to find some Clover ones locally. I have damaged Boye aluminum ones but I have yet to break a Clover bamboo needle, even after I sat or stepped on them (Not that I recommend trying this this!).

Bummer!! Sorry, don't have any Harmony dpns...just wanted to commiserate with you. Kaelen's cardi is going to be gorgeous!

ohmigod, that photo totally says it all. that sucks! but the metal ones are so much better :)

What a letdown. I always use two circs because PeeWee loves to decide she's going to help at the worst possible moment and I can quickly pull them through and get it out of her sight.

I find the harmonies to be really nice and sturdy. And as someone else mentioned, they come with 6 so you have an extra just in case. Of course, the nickel-plated ones would be ideal as they shouldn't ever snap like that. Though you may poke an eye or two out with them.

Oh, no! Sorry about the needle breakage. But that sock yarn... those colors are fantastic.

That's really too bad. I use Clover bamboos which aren't on sale here, but friends kindly sent them to me. Hope you find a good alternative.

Oh, that stinks! I've had the same thing happen with my Brittany size 1s. My Clover bamboo have withstood a lot. I love bamboo. Thank you for linking to Harmony. If they're strong, that's a really good deal on that many sizes.
How can you stay sad with the cheery purple and green sock looking at you, though? :)

ugh - that is so frustrating! that is one reason I started knitting socks on one circular - no breaking!

Too bad about the knitting needle! I love the colors of your new sock!

Oh crap! Well, the fronts of Kaelen's cardi look great!

Man, you are so busy. I need to venture into the world of knitting socks. I hope it is something I could teach myself. I don't know about DPNs, but I have come to prefer metal needles over plastic because the yarn doesn't glide as easily on wood for me. Good luck!
