Shetland Triangle Take 2

I thought I would make another of these lovely shawls, but I didn't realize so soon. This one was made for my mother's birthday, it ended up being a bit late (don't so many knit gifts) but she says she likes it. Mom, want to send me a picture of you wearing it?

I used Austermann Barkarole doubled to knit this. What a lovely, lovely soft yarn. It's a wool, silk, cashmere blend so I guess that would explain it. This was a stashbuster and it feels nice to have such nice yarn out of the stash and into a usable garment.

I thought I would show you some of the projects hanging around that I need to finish up. Most of these just need buttons, isn't that pathetic!

Cashmere Neckwarmer in Handmaiden Cashmere.

Brea Bag in Berroco Ultra Alpaca. This one is going to be hard to finish, it's just so fiddly.

Anthropologie-Inspired Capelet in Jaeger Extra Fine Merino Chunky.

Ewwwww...

I know that some of you have already seen this on Jarvis' blog, but for those who haven't.

What are these children so fascinated with?

Ug! Jarvis held it in his hands, and then tried to bring it in the house. I don't think so!

Kaelen looked it up for us and we believe it's a tobacco hornworm, unless it's a tomato hornworm. It's a bit confusing, either way, gross.

Sewing and Stuff

I made this little outfit for Fiona a while back. I was on a sewing high and made up a bunch of stuff for both the girls.

This was from a cheap Simplicity pattern, I'd link but I can't remember what it was, it doesn't matter though, the pattern sucked. I have so many mistakes in these two articles of clothing, and although I will take credit for a few of them, the pattern made no sense at all in many, many places.

After the top was done, I had to reseam it all over the place because otherwise she looked like an overweight clown. I am pleased with the shorts though, I've never made pants before and I thought they would be soooo hard, but they were easy and fun. Plus, she wears them fairly often, they are nice and stained now, sure sign that they're comfy. I definitely plan on making more pants for my kids this fall, just need to find a decent pattern.

I Did It!!

I made yarn! Sure it's lumpy and bumpy and feels like rope, but yay me!

This is destined to become a little felted something or other, I think I need to hide it's imperfections.

I wasn't sure I was going to like this whole spinning thing, but wow, it really sucks you in. I have no idea if I plyed my yarn properly but while I was doing it I was so excited watching the yarn twist together, like a kid in a candy shop!

And I got a back issue of Interweave Felt in the mail today, because I have to make some of these

Fat Baby Booties for Simon. Aren't they so cute, here are some more pics to convince you if the above don't do the trick. I think I am going to try and up-size a pair to fit Fiona, too.

Not that she deserves it!

Look at what the budding artist did! (Yes, I know that picture is creepy) This doll is one from my childhood and I can't get rid of her, luckily the war paint mostly came off with water, but she still has some faint smudges of green around her hairline.

At least, I think that's her name. It seems right. I had fun making up this little lady, a nice break from knitting :-)

Hand sewing is kind of relaxing, it doesn't freak me out as much as using the sewing machine. I have another little set of dolls that are almost done, I'll show them soon.

I have been knitting away, but for the time being it's all secret. Makes it hard for the old blog, but here's a little peek at what I'm working on.

Cable-Twist

First, thanks so much for all the spinning info, I have lots to keep me busy for a while.

Finished socks for the husband. A fairly staid and boring picture which is unusual for him, even if it is just socks. I'm not sure what was up with that. And my camera was smudged, oops.

These were knit for the Sock A Month Knitalong which I sadly failed at in the end. Moving and sock knitting didn't work out so well for me.

Cable-twist Socks by Adrian Bizillia, knit with Cascade 220. I have a better picture of the cables on my Ravelry page if anyone cares about that. He likes them. It's good.

This is just a pretty picture to make up for the previous one being rather bland. The weather seems to go from hot and muggy to poring rain, although lately it's seen some improvement.

The Loot

I love this man, he really worked hard at making this a great anniversary. I didn't realize he had been listening as I rambled on and on about my latest obsession, but I guess he did, because he arranged a trip out to London-Wul so I could indulge myself.

First we've got buttons, because I love buttons and can't resist.

Two, that little obsession I mentioned could only be taken care of by one of these. My man even called ahead and made sure they carried top-whorl spindles, since that's what I kept going on and on about. Love.

Plus, some of this to play with. Look at all the yellow, I don't know what happened but I sort of decided that I would knit with red and blue, and spin with yellow. Makes sense, see, I have all the primary colors covered.

And then, there's a book because I think another obsession may be forming. This book, by the way, is fascinating. Even if I never actually try dyeing learning about natural dyes is making me very happy.

So, I have to ask you, where do you go for spinning fixes? I am such a newbie with all, and I'm craving some visual inspiration. I love checking out Smoking Hot Needles and drooling over her handspun, but I need more. Please, link me up.

Nine

11 more minutes and Peter and I will be married nine years. It's kind of nice. Peter is funny and smart, not afraid to take risks. Spontaneous to my stick-in-the-muddiness. He will set his mind to something and than he does it, just like that, no waffling.

Tomorrow he's taking me to London-wul to buy me a present :-) I think that's very sexy!!! The perfect fellow even when he's not fulfilling my wild yarny desires.

Shetland Triangle

I finished this up for my dear mom-in-law, Margaret. She's such a sweetie, and greatly appreciative of handknits. I am so glad I could give this to her.

It is Evelyn Clark's Shetland Triangle from Wrap Style. I used Fleece Artist Silk Stream in Moss, which I believe is discontinued. I have a ton of yarn left so I think I might end up making another. My sister has hinted that she is would like one, so we will see...

All in all, a satisfying knit, I really like simple lace, it looks so pretty, but you don't burn out brain cells while trying to knit it.
